7. Zigzag chain stitch is worked over Cretan stitch in the first row, over half chevron stitch in the second row and over buttonhole variation in the third row.

8. Zigzag stitch is worked over chain stitch in the first row, v-shaped chain stitches are worked one over the other in the second row. Wrapped coral stitch in blue thread is worked under zigzag chain in the third row. The Pekinese stitch variation goes through zigzag chain in the fourth row.

The sampler was completed with these stitch combinations. Browsing the net, I find that this stitch is widely used. I enjoyed working on this sampler. The whole sampler-

4. The wide and narrow versions of zigzag chain stitches are alternated in the first row. The three step zigzag chain stitches are worked one after another in the second row. V-shaped chain stitches in very light green [not clear at all] are worked on both sides of the zigzag chain stitch in the third row.

5. I worked some isolated stitches with zigzag chain stitch in these samples-
Row 1-pistil stitches and Italian border stitch
Row 2- detached chain stitches and Algerian eye variation.
Row 3- buttonhole wheel variation and triangular feather [this version of feather is commonly used to decorate some Indian ethnic embroideries] stitches.

6. Continuing on the same theme-
Row 1-oyster stitch and french knots.
Row 2-bullion knots and slipped detached chain stitches
Row 3- fly stitches and twisted chain stitches [ just thought looking at the seam ,wheat ear can also be worked like this]

This week’s zigzag chain stitch is very simple and decorative stitch on the TAST 2013 challenge by SharonB. I have often tried zigzag version of possible stitches on my samplers. Today I did some samples on this sampler.

1.I tried this stitch in the first row, did a long and short version in the second row and tried a pattern in the third row.

2.Another pattern is worked with zigzag chain stitch in the first row. Two rows of the stitch is worked in the second sample. One chain stitch is straight and next one is worked at angle in the third row, the chains kept slipping with this thread here, so the method is not seen clearly.

3.v-shaped chains are worked in the first row. Two rows of zigzag chain stitches are worked to form diamonds in the second sample. V-shaped chain stitches are worked one after another in the last row.
