RPW 2016 challenge chart of the week was completed on time.
Two stitches together- crossed and plaited feather stitches are this week’s TAST challenge stitches. These stitch samplers were worked earlier. the working of these stitches are on Pintangle. The link to these stitch samplers are posted on FB group.
The embroidery for the white kota cotton fabric with green block prints was completed this week. The tunic is with the tailor.
Black border tunic
Filling stitches on the paisley motif were worked with variegated fine silk thread on the black fabric with woven border.

WIPW90-blbordert-2
This pink tunic with border was sewn by the tailor last week. The embroidery designing is yet to be done.

WIPW90-pinbordert-1
There was not much progress on embroidery work. I was seeing many Marash embroidery work. The history of Armenia was sad.
Keeping the idea of Marash embroidery a border was designed. I am a novice at circular kutchwork patterns. Three more ideas on this type of embroidery are waiting in queue. It is a different experience to plan and scheme a kutch pattern without mirrors or other stitches. Still it is very interesting. Hope to design them all before it slips from the memory.

RPW2016
The chart could be completed on the day it was posted on this challenge.
TAST 2016
I am yet to post the samples of fern stitch worked during earlier TAST challenge on FB group. This week we have another stitch -buttonhole wheel cup. I just posted the sampler on FB.
Black border tunic
The border on this tunic is woven with metallic yarn. It came back half sewn from the tailor, for working the embroidery. After tracing the pattern, I started the chain stitch outlines with gold metallic thread. A paisley pattern was also traced on this tunic front.

WIPW89-blborder-1
After the Dubai, I was itching to do some simple embroidery on light weight fabric. This white cotton kota fabric with block prints in green is ideal. Pattern is drawn. Have to start the work.

WIPW89-whgrkota-1
These two fabrics are cotton, one has stripes and the other one has prints. The printed fabric will be the front of the tunic and the striped fabric will decorate the back. Pattern drawing for embroidery is in progress. This is for a simple Indian ethnic embroidery.

WIPW89-yelloracombo-1
While browsing the pinterest yesterday. I was ensnared by Maarash embroidery from Armenia. This is similar to kutchwork. Eager to study this work more.

This is the latest tunic where blue is matched with yellow and orange. In Muscat, Oman, we get oxidized silver accessories. Most of them have beads on them. Different shades of corals are available and they are coordinated with turquoise beads. These are feast for eyes in the souq. Mind slowly started generating patterns for projects built on these inspirations.
This tunic started with the yellow fabric printed with orange motifs. A kutchwork design with allowance for mirrors was drawn along with two other embroidery designs. The choice was to work the embroidery on yellow fabric or orange fabric. With the orange fabric being available yellow was the first colour chosen. The next choice was green. The fly stitches on the leaf pattern.

yelorbluet-1
Two kutchwork motifs were worked in orange thread which was lighter than the fabric colour.

yelorbluet-2
Another motif pattern had an option of being worked in two threads, the central diamond are worked in maroon thread.

yelorbluet-3
Starting with the idea of incorporating blue into this design, the corners of this square motif was worked in blue thread.

yelorbluet-4
The yellow from the fabric was the next colour, the same motif pattern which was worked in lighter orange was now worked in yellow thread.

yelorbluet-5
The fly stitches are outlined with buttonhole stitch in lighter green thread.

yelorbluet-6
Open chain stitches are worked in white thread to outline the mirrors inside the orange and yellow kutchwork motifs. The piece itself was outlined with back stitch.

yelorbluet-7
Mirrors were worked in the same fabric yellow in the space between the leaf patterns.

yelorbluet-8
Square mirrors in blue thread are worked inside the square motifs.

yelorbluet-9
These blue beads are made of wood and dyed in blue.

yelorbluet-10
The blue handloom cotton fabric with stripes was perfect for this set.

yellow orange patialablue tunic
Outlining the embroidered piece and the sleeves with the yellow orange fabric was a good choice. Though this idea was mine, I could see the satisfaction in my tailor’s eyes. He is quite stingy with praises.

RPW 2016
This week’s chart on this cross stitch sampler challenge was completed on Sunday 15th may.
TAST 2016
This week’s stitches are fern stitch and the beaded version of fern stitch. These two have been worked earlier, the link to my blog needs to be posted on facebook group.
Yellow red khadi tunic
The sewn yellow khadi cotton tunic was embroidered and embellished with mirrors this week. Khadi is hand woven fabric made with hand woven yarn.

WIPW88-yelredkhadi-4
Cream and black chanderi tunic
Some progress was made on this small piece this week. The sequin were attached with silk thread. the stitch worked is different from the usual mirror stitch. Holding on to the sequin was easier and keeping the thread in its place was difficult. I thought differently when this work started.

WIPW88-crblchanderi
This project was lying in a bag, till it was coordinated with a ready sewn Patiala.

orawhblgret-det2
I have another project to start. The fabric is with the tailor. This is black cotton fabric with threadwork border. The tailor will give the front piece of the tunic to be embroidered. More details next week.

The tunic fabric is soft cotton, the dark blue fabric is cotton crepe. the project started in 2015 and completed now in May 2016.This is the first project where these two concepts were tried for the first time. A form of Indian ethnic embroidery and mix of blue and orange.

orawhblgret-fabric
It was hard to conceive the idea of mixing orange and blue together. But there were too many eye candies which nurtured this and a time came when I wanted to try this. An ethnic embroidery pattern which was predominantly done in chain stitch and mirror work was seen on a wall hanging. This piece had other forms of ethnic embroidery too. A border was worked with this detail.

orawhblgret-1
The basic floral design was worked completely in chain stitch with green thread.

orawhblgret-2
The outline was worked in dark blue thread. Till this time the dark blue fabric was to be coordinated with this tunic. Eventually it changed,

orawhblgret-3
With the fabric colour being white, last of the chain stitches were worked in white.

orawhblgret-4
Round mirrors were worked in light blue thread.
At this stage, coordinating the dark blue with this tunic was not looking very good. So the project was kept aside to be given to the tailor later. A light blue Patiala was bought, which coordinated better with this tunic.

orange yoke on white blue green tunic
The tailor worked an ideal way of sewing this skewed striped fabric. The result is lovely,

We went to Dubai for the weekend. The computer was not in touching range. The idea of working on the chart while driving back was dropped before we left Muscat. This chart was worked yesterday. The chart is available on this site.

RPW2016
The weekly chart of part of alphabets was worked on Saturday.
TAST 2016
This week’s stitches eastern and beaded eastern stitches were worked on the earlier TAST challenge. The link to this blog was posted on facebook group.
Saree falls
Our sarees are 5.5 metres long. The side which meets the ground will endure lots of wear and tear. To minimize the damage, we attach a 5 inch strip with over 2.5 metres length along that edge. These are called saree falls, easily available in many colours in India.

WIPW87-Sfalls-1
These falls are attached to the saree with running stitch. This repetitive work is quite relaxing and meditative and I love doing it. These two sarees were safeguarded during this week.

WIPW87-sfalls-2
Cream and black chanderi tunic
Chain stitch and herringbone stitches are worked in red fine silk thread.

WIPW87-crblchanderi-3
Yellow red khadi tunic
I started with feather stitch creepers on this tunic. This is freely drawn design.

WIPW87-yelredkhadi-3
An embroidered piece was lying in a bag, because the original combination was not attractive anymore. A yellow handloom cotton fabric was chosen for this piece. The finished tunic.

This brown ikat fabric was there for quite some time. The weave gave an impression of yellow. This brought about an idea of working the embroidery in yellow.

brgryel-fabric
Suddenly a green fabric popped into the picture and I started working the embroidery on it. The embroidery was mainly worked in herringbone stitch with a chain and buttonhole stitches thrown here and there.

brgryel-1
Then slowly brown thread came into the picture.

brgryel-2
Most of the herringbone shapes are now outlined in brown thread.

brgryel-3
After outlining the leaf shapes in green thread, variegated fine silk thread was used.

brgryel-4a
These details show clearly the places where variegated thread was used.

brgryel-4b
Continuing with gold metallic thread.

brgryel-5
Gold beads and sequins were added in the last part of this embroidery.

brgryel-6
The detail of the embroidery placed on the brown ikat fabric.

brgryel-7
I realize that the green fabric is overpowering. A slight shift had to be done, so a yellow cotton fabric was bought. This combo was given to the tailor and it came back like this.

Now for the detail. The embroidery and the sleeves have brown ikat fabric on them.

This project taught me to be cautious before bringing in another colour [this case, green]. And if the deed is already done, start looking for ways to improvise, this case plain yellow fabric.
