Long stitch

Progress was not there on the stitch challenges and SALs this week. Beyond TAST is posing as a real challenge this month. Still on thinking, browsing mode.
Projects
Long stitch kit
This flamingo stitch kit is progressing very slowly. I was using tapestry needle #20 when I started this kit, remembering it was really hard to push the needle with six strands doubled over on the needle hole, decided to use tapestry needle # 26 this time around. Pushing the needle is easier this time, but the weave is hard on the eye. Worked on lighter green thread this week on bottom right corner.

Since this kit required complete focus, it was hard to work on it over the weekend. So a saree which needed stabilizer where it touches the ground was taken up.
WIPW166-phucreamsar-1
While working on it, a thought of embellishing the saree with embroidery came to mind. A simple motif which will be repeated was chosen this week.
The tunics are waiting for a break from the flamingo kit!

This week the challenges and projects have kept the needles sticking to my hand.
Stitch challenges
Beyond TAST
We have something new to explore this month on Beyond TAST challenge. I need time to think on it.

SALs
RPW 2018
I am yet to start a single border on this SAL. Saving the weekly charts is the only progress on this cross stitch SAL.

It was quite an interesting week on the whole.

Happy New Year!
First post of 2018. It was a busy week, and it just flew away. As they say, ‘Time flies when you are happy’
All I remember is thinking, doing, relaxing, eating, exercising, browsing- sometimes doing two things together. Now, ready for another year.
There are two SALs that were interesting for me.
SALS

MMM blackwork
Every month there will be a black work design posted on the blog. For January I am planning to work on 16 count Aida[ I think]. More details as this project progresses.
RPW2018
This year this blog will post cross stitch borders on Saturdays. I may not work all the charts. This is yet to start, and my RPW 2017 alphabet SAL is yet to be taken to task!
Stitch Challenges
SSS
I have worked on chosen stitches. The details of those samples have to be posted. Waiting for Sunday for the next stitch.
Beyond TAST
This challenge is for stitchers who have worked the earlier TAST challenges. Sharon has given some guidelines. I have this small table cloth with 7 Aida panels.
WIPW160-BTAST-yelt-1
1st idea- work some Sashiko patterns on them?
Projects
Blue ikat tunic
After working the outlines in white, I have started with the mirrors on this tunic project.
WIPW160-blgreyikat-7
Along with the yellow table cloth, a small long stitch kit was lying around to be noticed. The UFO’s have also been waiting their turn. Let us see.

I have started working on 36th week stitch. The 37th week stitch of SSS challenge is Hungarian stitch. the working is on Queenie’s blog. I had worked on a long stitch kit from Anchor few years ago. There were three kits of same size with different flowers. This is one of them.
SSS.37.Hungarian stitch1b
The background was also to be worked in long stitch only on all of them. On each of them a needlepoint stitch was worked. In this daffodils piece, Hungarian stitch was worked as back ground in black and maroon. Colour choice was not ideal, but it was okay.
SSS.37.Hungarian stitch 1a
After working the Roumanian stitch as Indian filling stitch, maybe small Hungarian stitch samples can be worked on canvas.

I had bought this long stitch kit from Anchor, last year.this was a medium size picture, with a single kingfisher,
Once in a while I enjoy working on these kits- saves time, effort on designing, calculating.Only hassle is , after some the right index finger starts aching[all the pushing into the tight canvas].
This was my journey.
I started with the dark colours from the centre of the picture. This area was done with cotton skeins[came along with the kit] in 6 strands

kingfisher-1

The background in 4 strands. And the immediate foreground [yellow] in 6 strands.

kingfisher-2

Stitched the clouds in white, working the brown[8 strands] on the frame pattern.
