Queenie in her blog mentions that this stitch’s origin is from India. I didn’t know that. Remember seeing this stitch on some embroideries, but thought it was a creative fly stitch. The working is on Queenie’s blog. This stitch was posted there few weeks ago. When this sampler was started this week, I worked the first three rows slightly differently [forgot to check], then decided to check, finding the stitches are connected, again started from the fourth row.
After working one sample in the right way, the second sample is worked alternatively with the stitch and its inverse.
In the first sample the anklet stitch and its inverse are worked on top of each other to form a pattern. The stitches are worked horizontal to form a line in the last row. This matti cloth was not an ideal choice for this stitch. A plain cloth would have given allowance to work the stitches in an imaginative way.
