red striped tunic

There was no work in progress on SSS challenge this week. Thorn stitch might be started today. The details of finished samplers re waiting to be posted.
Thorn stitch looks easy. Rambler rose stitch needs to be practiced. Moss stitch needs to be learnt first.
Projects

Mustard yellow and copper tunic
After working on the leaves of the red tunic, got bored and started some fly stitch variation on this mustard yellow tunic.
WIPW153-muscopt-2
This tunic is already sewn by the tailor. Ideal project for work when feeling bored. The idea can be contemplated at one time, it can be implemented at another time and can also be shelved for some time.
Green yellow ikat tunic
Worked some open chain stitch inside the buttonhole stitch circle and chain stitch along the outline on this project.

The progress during this week was initially repetitive, then slowed down to some scattered stitches and moved on to some development of design.

It was a week in Chennai, India which kept me on my toes these two weeks after Diwali festival. Generally I love rain, may be not so much this time in Chennai. A wedding, visits, waiting times, it was hectic and wet. Hardly any time to even think let alone do some work.
The braid stitch on a string bag was also completed during this time. Time flew, another few more new stitches on SSS challenge are added. Still thinking of ways to work them. There was connection problem in Chennai too. Thorn stitch on SSS challenge slipped through that. Time to get back on track including the SSS challenge posts.

The highlight of this project is the open chain stitch of SSS challenge. This stitch is used for working the leaves. Still working on this project.

The UFOs are piling up. Now there is another interest to embroider on blouses for sarees. This is the influence of Indian festivals and weddings. Hope these ideas are fruitful and don’t vanish. Many years ago I have embroidered blouses. At that time it was quite rare. Nowadays everyone seems to be wearing these blouses with embroidery, beads and sequins. Too grand for my taste but they can be used as inspirations.

This week was good in progress on SSS challenge. Three stitches- Rumanian stitch, Hungarian stitch and Bosnian stitch were completed. Braid stitch is the next in line. It is not behaving friendly with me. When I seem to get the slightly familiar, if a break comes, getting back to the rhythm is hard. Should I have chosen a smaller design to try this stitch? Too late now. Just have to keep doing it.
Red striped tunic
I have started with rope stitch on the stems on this red fabric.

We are having another festival today, Diwali. This time it was preparation of traditional sweets, snacks and some herbal paste to digest these highly heavy things. It was definitely an interesting week. but hard to find time to write a post.

This week was spent on trying to catch up with the SSS challenge stitches.
Roumanian stitch
This stitch was worked as Indian filling stitch on a square pattern. The pattern is for a pouch. Both sides of the pouch have the same pattern, with same cotton skeins for the embroidery. The filling is worked differently.

The other side

I hoping to finish this project today. The details of the embroidery will be on a separate post.
Bosnian stitch
The idea is to work some samples on matti cloth. This work will start after completing the pouch. The stitch looks easy.
Hungarian stitch
Some samples of Hungarian stitch is to be worked on canvas. This will be quite a small sampler.
Braid stitch
This stitch is to be worked on a medium size pouch. The design is ready. The stitch has to be learnt. Practicing can happen on the project!
Granitos
Thinking on how to work this stitch- a sampler or bag or on tunic?

.It was a long weekend for Eid in Muscat and it ended with two Indian festivals. The first one is Onam which celebrates the harvest in the state of Kerala, the second one is a religious one which was today. Our friend from Kerala gave us sumptuous lunch and today I prepared some special dishes.
Stitch challenge samplers were set aside this week.

Open chain stitch of SSS challenge is used on this project. This stitch is often used on ethnic Gujarati and Rajasthani embroideries along with other stitches. Sometimes a whole project is worked in this stitch. In this project, the flower petals [filling] and the lines worked in red variegated thread are open chain stitches. Practicing the stitch is also part of the project. I am learning to maintain uniform working of the stitch through this project.
WIPW146-redstrt-3
After getting the blue jute cotton tunic fabric from the tailor, the tedious job of marking the places to work the embroidery motifs started. 1 inch lines are marked all over the front and sleeves. I have started working fly stitches in darker shade of the same blue. Lot more to go.
WIPW146-blujutet-2
An idea to work wood beads on copper tunic needs to be implemented.
Once these projects become comfortable routine, I might take a break and work on stitch challenges. Till then it is hard to relax to work on samples.

We had family visiting from India. They left on Tuesday last week. I was never near the needles or thread or computer during that time to post progress.
The stitches on SSS challenge of the last three weeks are yet to be tackled. The braid stitch is a stitch to be learnt, this might be worked on a string bag. The design is yet to be drawn. Hoping to start the Chinese cross stitch samples today. The method of working the Chinese knots will have to be considered after this.
The TAST challenge has to be visited on Pintangle.
A few borders in Kasuti embroidery was worked on the sampler cloth. This will be a separate post from now on.

Projects
The embroidery with green thread on black fabric for green blouse was completed. The zardosi work on pink fabric for violet matka silk was also completed.
The kutchwork border designs were drawn on cream / half white cotton fabric. This will be long project, so the progress may not be regular. It started with working near the edge.
WIPW144- cream tkutch-1
We had open chain stitch on SSS challenge. This stitch is often used in some Indian ethnic embroidery. To work this stitch for this red striped tunic, is the next project idea.
WIPW144-redstrt-1
Another project idea is also there, which will be shared on next work in progress Wednesday post.
