I have seen this stitch, but never thought of attempting it before. When it is introduced on SSS challenge, it is time to try it. The working of the stitch is on Queenie’s blog.
After drawing some lines with pencil on this plain cloth, I started with the basic stitch, worked another row of the stitch to practice the rhythm of the stitch. The third row is alternate working of short and long chains.

Tried working the chains on both sides in the first sample. This is interesting. Next trial is to work the alternate chains as berry stitches in the second sample. Extending the tail of alternate chains is tried in the next sample.
SSS.60.petalst-2
Time to work the petal stitches in circles. Started with working the petals outwards, then inwards and the last one is the combination of working the petals inwards and outwards.

The sampler
SSS.60.Petal stitch sampler
The sampler was worked with red cotton skeins, some were six strands and others four strands. Combining the petals stitches with other stitches will give so many decorative options.
