The work on this month’s Beyond TAST sampler started late because of my trip to India.
Laid work embroidery was on ‘to do’ list for a few years. This interest started with seeing some videos on youtube.
These few days I have been working these samples. The source of this sample is pinterest.
BTAST18-3-1
This simple laid work design seems to pop out quite often.
BTAST18-3-2
This laid work pattern was taken from A-Z crewel embroidery book.
BTAST18-3-3
This couching worked on surface satin stitch was also taken from A-Z crewel embroidery.
BTAST18-3-4
I need to practice this embroidery well before venturing into new ideas. May be a few more designs can be worked during this last week of this challenge.

These isolated stitch explorations were worked during the first week of this month. iam late in posting the details.
Individual triple chain stitches are worked in a pattern in the first sample. The second sample is an arrangement of Vandyke stitches.

These are double chain explorations. I didn’t get far.
BTAST-2-27
Used this double chain on the motif inside the design too.
BTAST-2-28
Now for some twisted chain arrangements. This twisted chain stitch is a versatile stitch. This stitch was used often on my TAST samplers.

I was in Chennai, India for a week. It was pretty hectic as usual. Only my stitching suffered. The challenges and SALs were kept aside. I had managed to complete February’s Beyond TAST challenge. the details will be on a separate post.
After returning back, I thought I will start laid work on Beyond TAST challenge. Some years ago, while browsing the net, came across some interesting laid work/lattice work on Youtube. To try them a light coloured fabric was chosen and a few designs were drawn on it. With this month’s beyond TAST challenge, this design cloth can be used. I had not started any stitching till now.
Starting the challenge on this pattern.

After working on my stitching during this week, will have more progress to report.

A stitch a day is the way I have been working on this monthly challenge.
A shape made of cretan stitch and herringbone stitch combo was worked inside the design.

The detail of the stitched shape.
BTAST-2-15
The sampler growing with some more stitches.
BTAST-2-16
A herringbone and cretan combo again.
BTAST-2-17
First sample is cretan tree shape and the second one is fly and scroll stitch tree shape.
BTAST-2-18
These tree shapes were worked in triangular cretan, Algerian eye part and fly stitches.
BTAST-2-19
Another motif worked with cretan stitch and buttonhole centre. the organic design is worked with up and down buttonhole stitch and detached chain stitch.
BTAST-2-20
The first sample worked with berry stitch leaf with back stitch outline and the second sample is worked with queen stitch leaves.
BTAST-2-21
The queen stitch is worked around the shape inside the design too.
BTAST-2-22
A few more stitches to go.

I have never worked couching stitch like this. The working of the stitch is on Queenie’s blog.

After posting the progress on Wednesday, I totally forgot  about this stitch till today.
A thicker needle would have been better. Stitching to complete this sampler today, may not have been an ideal way to study this stitch. The fabric was right for the stitch. The couched thread is six strands of cotton skein and the couching thread is three strands of cotton skein.
SSS.52.Underside couching
Need more practice to work this stitch neat.
