10.The buttonhole stitches are worked with green glass beads in the first one. I worked three rows of herringbone stitches and the buttonhole stitches are worked over them. This looks like cutwork embroidery and opens more possibilities. But I wanted to finish this sampler today!

The sampler-

I enjoyed working with this stitch. A great stitch for decorative purposes.

I tried some more variations of this stitch today. The second part of the sampler-

The details-
From this sample, I discarded the twine and started working with the same variegated cone threads for the herringbone stitches.
5.The thread got twisted too much in the first variation of this stitch. I tried working over and under another row of buttonholed herringbone, but made a mistake, still I feel this variation will work out well when worked properly, hope someone tries this!

I worked the herringbone stitches with a twine. But the thread is seen through the buttonhole stitches. I realized that after working on these samples.
The details-
2. The stitch is worked with varying heights in the first variation. Half buttonholed herringbone are worked in the next variation.

This week’s composite stitch is buttonholed herringbone on the TAST 2013 Challenge by SharonB. This was part of an earlier TAST challenge. I had worked a few samples at that time. They are here.
This stitch though interesting, it takes some time to work. And the ideas of varying this stitch are not many at this stage!
Just to kick start the sampler, tried two samples today- wide and narrow versions of this stitch.
