I combined other stitches with rope stitch in this part of the sampler. I saw the idea of building a seam on a group, this created interest, I want to try this idea, whenever possible on my samplers.

I wanted to use this stitch for working stems, creepers, so the sampler is worked in green threads. Building seams, working samples for a specific purpose, are new steps for me. The whole sampler-

Some more variations were worked on the sampler.

Two rows of rope stitch are worked in the same direction in the first sample, three rows of rope stitches in a curve in different shades of green  are worked in the second sample, in the third sample, rope stitches worked with perle cotton and cotton skein are combined. perle cotton and silk threads are combined in the fourth sample. Rope stitches are worked in opposite directions in the fifth sample.

The long rope stitch is combined with short rope stitch in the first row. The needle was inserted further in the line to form a shorter version of rope stitch, this is combined with basic rope stitch in the second row. Rope stitches are whipped and laced in the next two rows. I tried a wider version of the stitch by inserting the needle beside the previous stitch in the line in the fifth row. The detail-

Wide and normal version of rope stitches are alternated in the sixth row.

This week’s stitch on TAST challenge by SharonB is rope stitch. This stitch is a variation of twisted chain stitch. I worked some samples.

In this part of the sampler, the square boss stitches are combined in this order with other TAST stitches-Rice stitch, double cross stitch, square herringbone and Algerian eye stitch.

Detached chain stitches are worked below square boss stitches in the first sample. The stitch worked over lace along with pistil stitches and beads in the second row, the square boss stitches [at least try to] keep the beads in place over the crosses in the last row.

A lovely stitch to work with on my sampler.

The working of this stitch is on SharonB’s blog. This stitch is similar to last week’s stitch. I started on this stitch sampler today.

The samples were started with square boss stitch on big crosses, after alternating with same and contrast colours, big and small crosses are alternated in the last row.

First row is a pattern sample, second row, the stitches are worked on upright crosses ,third row is a combination of stitches worked on normal and upright crosses, fourth row a leg of the upright crosses are longer, the fifth row, two legs of the crosses are extended and in  the last row, the stitches are worked in different colours on the same cross. The last row should have had space in between to show the sequence, and it would have been easier for me  too.

After working a few more samples this stitch sampler was completed.

12.106.looped Cretan stitch sampler

In the first row, the top and bottom stitches are worked at different angles. Two looped cretan stitch rows worked together [one over the other] forms the second sample. Two loops are made on the cretan stitches in the third sample. Two buttonhole stitches are made after the loop in the last sample.

I enjoyed working on this stitch sampler. This stitch is very versatile to combine with other stitches. I was not paying attention to the thread colours, they were all polyester threads.

Today I experimented with this stitch on this sampler.

1.The loops are worked shorter than the cretan stitches in the first row. The stitches are worked at straight angles in the second row. The loops are worked short than the cretan stitches in the top and are worked normally in the bottom in the third row. The loops are longer than the cretan stitches in the fourth row, this treatment continues on closely worked stitches on the same row.  I always felt that cretan stitch when worked closely resembles a braid, when the edges are treated differently, like this long loop variation, the braided effect is more. Phew..!

12.106.loopcretst-5

2.The short loops cross over the cretan stitches in the first row, the last few stitches are closely worked the same manner[for the braid effect]. The crossed short loops and long loops combination on cretan stitches  is worked in the second row. Two stitches with shorter loop and two stitches with normal loops are alternated in the third row. This row , I wanted to try an idea of working flowers or beads between normal loops which can be used as leaves. But I am not working any other treatment now on this sampler.
