It is a productive week. On Beyond TAST challenge, a few more layered embroidery ideas were attempted.
Since my tailor is back from vacation, the tunic fabrics which were set aside are getting due attention now.
This tunic is a combo of three fabrics- block printed white cotton, violet handloom cotton and white hakoba for sleeves. I might work some embroidery around the neck on this after it comes from the tailor.
This fabric is tussar silk. An inspiration to work Kashmiri chain stitch on yoke and sleeves is being implemented. I have seen tunics with  this embroidery, sometimes it is done with aari or tambour needle or with closely worked open chain stitch or sometimes simple chain stitch. The embroidery is started on a silk/cotton fabric of same colour. The pictures of this work needs to be uploaded on the computer.
Still SSS challenge stitches are waiting to be started. They are easy stitches.

The name of the 14th week st of the stitch challenge TAST2010 by Sharon, is quite long.  But my sampler of the st is quite small.I started  the basic herrinbone  with a thickthread[twine]

7th line- Added sequins and beads  on the peaks .

last line-detached chain, and straight sts are done on the valleys.

I throughly enjoyed doing this stitch sampler.

After the diamond stitch , this stitch was quite easy.Initially, the loop tension, thread twisting were all playing their part.after 3 or 4 rows I got the hang of it.For this stitch sampler , I used varigated thread, similar to perle cotton, but made locally[India].This range gives me freedom to use many colours. The anchor perle cotton  is not available in Oman. Now for the sampler,The rows were done in matti cloth[ Bombay deing] –

All the rows.I also did a row of trees just as fly stitch.-

 Sampler of motifs-

This time , wanted to add beads  to a row for seeing  their effect on this stitch, But chose a wrong colour -dark red.Not eye catching perhaps,But I was ready to wrap up this sampler. –

For the motifs it was just gold beads-

Though I have not tried this stitch before, I liked working on it.After coming from  India, had to catch up with first 4 stitches of the challenge, so that is seen on my samplers.

To understand this stitch better I have using Ikat weave as an inspiration. This is helping a lot .I have also started on considering the possibilities of  phulkari and kasouti. In Phukari, the pattern darning is  used extensively,  but they don’ t use even weave fabric, but any other fabric like, cotton, chiffon, silk.  Typical motifs which can be filled with this stitch are drawn. The wrong side of the fabric doesn’t carry much thread[ to avoid damage].

In kasouti, the basis is holbein stitch, these pattern darning motifs are incorporated in between . Both holbein stitch designs and pattern darning designs can be drawn on graph paper, [easier that way].

Now for my sampler-

As you can see, I have been experimenting  with colours.till now it has been tie and dye ikat weave patterns.
