After working the last few samples the fancy bobbin edging sampler was completed.

Bugle beads are used in this sample.

In this sample after working buttonhole variations, the green stone is embellished with one row of  detached fancy bobbin edging worked over back stitch. This embellishing the stone idea was seen in Mary’s needle n thread site in one of her projects. I used a stone with holes which can be attached to the fabric before working the stitch.

2.31.142.faboed-15

Sometimes it was interesting and stimulating, but at other times it was also demanding and draining. I used #7 crewel needle and chenille needle. The threads were taken from the used pile. With a very small stash of perle cotton or other kind of threads, I mainly use stranded cotton. On the whole it was an interesting project to work.

TAST 2016.2.31.142.Fancy bobbin edging-3

I have been working on this week’s challenge stitch on TAST 2016 – fancy bobbin edging. This sampler is taking some time work. This design sampler was started with the thinking buttonhole edging would be faster and lots of variations can be tested. Only two or three samples are worked each day.

The next set of samples-

The centre of this sample is worked with a buttonhole filling. Fancy bobbin edging is worked on two buttonhole variations in green and yellow perle cotton.

2.31.142.faboed-8

Fancy bobbin edging is used on basque stitch on this design. Basque stitch seems like a pretty buttonhole variation.

2.31.142.faboed-9

2.31.142.faboed-9

The centre paisley is filled with buttonhole wheels. The inner outlines is worked with two rows of fancy bobbin edging facing each other. The outline in brown is worked with basic buttonhole stitch and the fancy bobbin edging is worked over it. The extra dimension produced in this method is interesting.

2.31.142.faboed-10

I couldn’t work on this sampler today.

The idea of working on this design is to experiment the buttonhole stitch variations with fancy bobbin edging. In this sample scalloped buttonhole edging is worked in six strands of cotton skeins.

2.31.142.faboed-7

Triangular buttonhole and buttonhole stitches worked in varying heights are tested on this design.

2.31.142.faboed-8

Not much of a progress was made today. It is cloudy here.

This week on TAST 2016 challenge we have this decorative edge. It is an easy stitch to work. The working of the stitch is on Pintangle.
This sampler was started yesterday.
This time I decided to work the samples on a paisley design. The first sample is fancy bobbin buttonhole wheels on the outline worked in three strands of cotton skein and two rows of this stitch with perle cotton inside the paisley. The stitch does not look ornamental with three strands of cotton skein.

2.31.142.faboed-1

2.31.142.faboed-1

This paisley is outlined with this stitch in six strands of cotton skein. This could be better.

2.31.142.faboed-2

2.31.142.faboed-2

After working on these two samples yesterday, this morning started on the next sample. This sample is not fancy bobbin edging, but knotted buttonhole stitch. I noticed this mistake after working two samples.
May be it will be better to imagine this as fancy bobbin edging. The length of the stitches are smaller, the centre is worked in alternatively worked butthole stitches similar to feather stitch.

2.31.142.faboed-3

2.31.142.faboed-3

I did not realize the mistake even on this sample.

The outline is worked in two colours alternatively, a variation of alternatively worked closed and basic buttonhole is worked inside the outline, next row of this stitch is worked in the spaces left by the earlier row. The centre line in yellow was worked by passing underneath the earlier row. These two samples are worked in six strands of cotton skeins.

2.31.142.faboed-4

2.31.142.faboed-4

The inner curves are worked in this fancy bobbin edging with six strands of cotton skein. The outline is worked in perle cotton and whipped with cotton skein.

2.31.142.faboed-5

2.31.142.faboed-5

The centre is filled with fancy bobbin edging, similar to buttonhole filling stitch. The scalloped outline is worked in stranded cotton. The paisley outline is worked in polyester thread. The idea for this fancy bobbin edging is crossed buttonhole stitch.

Hoping to work on rest of the design tomorrow.

For the 16th week the progress on my projects are posted under this heading. It is helpful to the keep the mind focused on the progress of each one. The progress made by others can be seen on Pintangle.
The TAST challenge stitch took most of the time in this week. after completing it ,I moved on to the embroidery on tunic-
The centre of the yoke pattern on yellow tunic was worked with berry stitch [stranded cotton], chain stitch outlines [cotton skein and gold metallic thread] and herringbone filling [ variegated fine silk thread]

Embellishments will be with mirrors and beads. The third week edges were completed on Randje per week challenge. These edges are 8 inches in length. I started them in February.

The hussif was totally neglected this week too. The studio journal class lessons are very interesting and keeps me excited with many ideas, the habit of writing down the ideas needs to cultivated. Hoping that will start soon.

The chained bars worked inside the paisley was outlined in linked chain stitch and the inner paisley was outlined in back stitch.

Thought the spaces between the chained bars required some attention. Stem stitch and arrow head stitches are worked here-

Zigzag coral stitch and sequins-

The zigzag chain stitch was worked in metallic thread in this part over diamond shapes worked in perle cotton.

Sequins are added in the end. The piece looks like this

It was interesting to work the sequins on this piece. Zigzag chain worked over ribbon was an idea which did not find any place in this piece.

I need to catch on the next TAST stitch, Paisley again? I wonder.
The studio journal class is on its third week, I am presently overwhelmed at the ideas presented by Sharon there, and having some starting troubles.

Back to routine after ten days in Chennai, India. The working of this stitch is on Pin tangle.

Paisley has surfaced again on the TAST challenge. This piece was started before I left for holidays. Did not have time to even open the box of WIPs the whole time in Chennai.

The idea is to fill the paisley design with chained bar.
Starting with dark blue, and mixing dark and medium blue, the lines were filled with surface satin stitches. The zigzag chain stitch was worked in dark and light teal cotton skeins.

28.122.chbar-1

28.122.chbar-1

After working the surface satin stitch in light, medium blue and variegated threads, the zigzag chain stitch was worked in dark teal with chain stitch outline, blue and light teal.

28.122.chbar-2

28.122.chbar-2

After working the chained feather over the surface satin stitch in the bottom row, the zigzag chain stitch was worked in light teal cotton skein over medium blue polyester [slanted surface satin] and light blue cotton skein.

Continuing- The narrowed space inside the paisley was also worked in chained bar. This was done yesterday.
