After working a few more beaded lock stitches the sampler was completed today.

The first sample was worked on long and short straight stitches. It is not pretty, the lock stitches twisted the straight stitches! The beaded lock stitches are worked on three step feather stitch in the second sample. The third sample is beaded lock stitches worked over herringbone stitch and the Italian border stitches form the base for beaded lock stitches in the fourth sample.

37.131.beadlockst-3

The stitch is a buttonhole variation, the beaded lock stitches were worked from right to left, after trying in different ways, settled down to the last samples on the left side in the first sample. Fern stich came later in the TAST list, still ended up as the base for the second sample. Wheat ear stitches are worked with beaded lock stitch in the third sample.

37.131.beadlockst-4

37.131.beadlockst-4

Sheaf stitches form the base to work beaded lock stitch in the first sample. In the second sample, the beaded lock stitch is worked at the top, and the bottom is twisted and beaded, extra straight stitches were used for this. The straight stitches were beaded in the third sample. Beads are added to double lock stitch in the last sample.

Everything started with these stitches-

37.131.beadlockst-a

37.131.beadlockst-a

It was interesting working on this stitch. Some pointers-The beads are not that secure, which makes them turn in all directions, the space between the straight stitches and the bead size needs to be same. Sometimes when pulled tight, the lock stitches twist the straight stitches. This stitch can be added for extra texture, that way beads will rest comfortably and enhance the look of another stitch.

This is the third variety of lock stitch, the working of which is on Pintangle.
This was the 131st week stitch. This sampler  was started with basic straight stitch variations. The beaded lock stitch  on them is started today.

The straight stitches do not have any gaps and the two rows of beaded lock stitches are worked on alternate straight stitches, which tilts this stitch to the left. All the lock stitches are beaded in the second sample. Two beads are worked in this single row in the third sample. Two rows of short straight stitches were worked one below the other and the beaded lock stitches were worked on them in the fourth sample. This variation need to be written down before it slips the mind! The straight stitches are worked in a curved pattern which has created this curved beaded lock stitch in the fifth sample.

37.131.beadlockst-1

37.131.beadlockst-1

The first two samples have straight stitches in varying heights in a pattern, it was not pretty to work the lock stitches on varying heights, so beads were added at the end of the straight stitches in the first sample and even that was not done in the second sample. Learnt this lesson. Alternate lock stitches are beaded in the third and fourth samples in two ways.

I am catching up on TAST challenge stitches. This stitch was  earlier worked TAST 2010 challenge, the link is here. The tutorial for this stitch is on Pintangle.
Some variations of this stitch were tried on the earlier sampler, this sampler was started with triple chain stitch with pistil stitches. The second sample is triple chain stitch worked between zigzag coral stitches. Two rows of this stitch is the third sample.

39.133.trchst2-1

39.133.trchst2-1

These three samples of triple chain stitches are worked with chain stitch variations. The first sample was started with berry stitch worked alternatively up and down and ended with berry stitches on top. Twisted chain stitches are worked one side in the second sample. This is one example of polyester thread having a twist of its own, which gives a scalloped look. Slipped detached chains are worked on one side in the third sample.

39.133.trichst2-2

39.133.trichst2-2

The central chain gets attention in these two samples, the central chain in the first sample is oyster stitch and in the second sample is cable chain stitch.

39.133.trichst2-3

39.133.trichst2-3

In the first sample the central chains  are worked in zigzag manner. The chain stitches are worked  on one side in the second sample.

Triple chain stitches are worked on feathered chain stitch variation in the first sample and worked on buttonhole stitch variation in the last sample.

I liked working with this variegated thread on this stitch sampler. Some variations with beads was in mind, but thought SharonB might introduce it on next year’s challenge . Some motif ideas also floated, which were dashed with catching up wave.

This is the last stitch for this year. The working of the stitch is on Pintangle.
I started with threading both sides of the cable stitch on this sampler. The threading is done twice in same direction in the second sample. The threading is done on another row of cable chain on its return journey in the third sample.my cable chains need improvement.

Threaded cable chain stitch is worked on a curve in the first sample. The second sample is of threaded zigzag cable chain stitch. Two rows of cable chain are threaded together in the third sample.

I copied ideas from laced running stitch on these three samples. I like the last sample.

46.140.threadccableshct-3

46.140.threadccableshct-3

The threading is done differently in the first sample, instead of going around the side of the cable chain, it is twisted on detached chain stitches-chains hanging from chains! The cable chains have french knots in the second sample. Alternate cable chains are woven in the third sample. The last sample is a trial of combining cable chain and butterfly chain, which failed, but working the threaded cable chain over straight stitches was possible.

The sampler with its gold threading, apt for the season I suppose.

I completed this sampler today. I have four more stitches to catch up on TAST 2014.

Some more samples of barb stitch. This stitch was worked as tree motif in the first sample. The buttonhole stitches were worked in a pattern to achieve this. The second sample can be worked as a broad border and a filling. Every fifth whipping stitch is dropped in the third sample.

These samples are barb stitch on buttonhole stitch variations-1. Up and down buttonhole rows. 2. Closed and crossed buttonhole rows.3. Top knotted buttonhole rows.

44.138.barb st-5

The first sample is combined with double lock stitch, this sample looks like lace when worked with polyester thread. The barb stitch is combined with knotted buttonhole band in the last sample.

So many possibilities can be tried with this easy stitch

This week’s TAST stitch is an easy one. The tutorial for the stitch is on SharonB ‘s blog.
With the idea of exploring this as linear and filling stitch I started this sampler. In the second sample the buttonhole rows are worked apart, when the whipping stitch was pulled tight, it looks like the first sample.

Variations of this stitch as filling stitch.

44.138.barb st-2

44.138.barb st-2

In the first sample, the whipping is done on long and short buttonhole rows. Alternate spaces are whipped twice in the second sample. Another filling idea is tried in the third sample.

If it was tough to maintain the rhythm of this beaded knotted band in a line, it was much harder to work it around shapes, but it was interesting too.
The band is worked over straight stitches in leaf shape [?] in the first sample, beaded knots worked on buttonhole stitch variation in the second sample. the band are worked around Algerian eye stitches in the third sample. Chain stitch is worked in the centre of the band in the fourth sample. Band worked over satin ribbon couched with straight stitches.

Before working the band, the leaf and Algerian eye looked like this.

43.137.beadknbholeband-4a

Other stitches are worked with these beaded zigzag bands in this part of the sampler- pistil stitches, fly stitches and cross stitches. The fly stitches are lengthened to work the beaded zigzag band.

43.137.beadknbholeband-5

The sampler was completed with these samples. I enjoyed working this band, though the way the beads and knots behaved were totally unpredictable. Sometimes I wanted to avoid the knots after adding the beads, which I did at some places, this was also interesting.
