mirror or shisha

Though I have used a few colours of thread to embroider the pattern, mirrors were the main highlight. The space around the placement of mirrors were embroidered with colours chosen from the printed fabric.
The next colour was peach, for this I chose silk thread instead of cotton skeins. satin stitch, back stitch and stem stitch were worked with this thread.

After peach silk thread, parrot green colour was used to stitch herringbone filling on the pattern.

Golden yellow colour cotton skein was used to work, back stitch and chain stitch on the pattern. And  I started the outlines with cream colour cotton skein.

The last few details  on this embroidered yoke on my next post.

I bought a printed cotton fabric for a tunic, and later thought that , the overall design may be to gaudy for a tunic , and then found plain maroon readymade tunic from a shop and decided to match these two. The printed cotton fabric was made into a salwar [Indian pants]. The tunic set-

Idea for the yoke design-I wanted to use the colours on the printed fabric on some ethnic Indian pattern. After browsing through to get some inspiration, at last drew this yoke pattern. The idea was to use mirrors and sequins as embellishments on this embroidered yoke. The details of the embroidery-
First colour was medium green, herring bone filling stitches were made with this thread.

The next colour was yellowish green, chain stitches and back stitches were done with this thread-

The mirrors are worked on the places marked in the pattern for this yoke. Working of the mirrors was the last step in this embroidery. The yoke-

The tailor did a good job on this tunic.I was lucky to find the same colour of the yoke fabric for the salwar[ Indian pants]. The tunic has very subtle appeal even with all those mirrors, may be because of the colours.

The embroidery details of the mirrorwork yoke of the dark pink tunic.
After working on the central pattern with pink thread, outlining of the mirrors on the border was also done with this same pink thread. The next colour was lemon yellow-

The next colour is yellow.

This is the pattern I had drawn for the yoke of this dark pink tunic.
As seen, I have already progressed working on this pattern.
I started with the dark maroon thread, then worked with violet colour, after that dark green and moved on to medium green.

I am fond of this shape of yoke, wanted to do it for a long time.

The embroidery pattern for this yoke came from the inspiration to do mirror work and a pattern to suit the mirrors.
The first plan was to have mirror work border, and a floral pattern which will accommodate mirrors on it.
The tunic fabric is block printed cotton-

A greyish green fabric was chosen for the yoke.
The embroidery was worked with three strands of cotton skeins.
The stitches used were- chain stitch, herringbone stitch, straight stitch, detached chain stitch, and mirror work.
I did not take pictures from the beginning of the embroidery. The details on my next post.

The embroidery on this black yoke for the bright yellow chiffon tunic is completed . I am not detailing much about the stitches used in this project. They are simple stitches used for gujarati embroidery. I worked the embroidery in two strands of cotton skeins, to have the extra depth. The same pattern in a smaller scale worked in single strand of thread looks very beautiful. I have seen these types of wall hangings, thorans, this embroidery in single strand is done in silk fabric.
Now for the central motif-

I have worn this top with  black jeans.

The embroidery on yoke is completed .the stitches used are typical of gujarati type embroidery.  The motifs are also chosen from that embroidery designs only. The motif here were not copied as they were. I altered the pattern details, made some additions and deletions to suit my preference.  these motifs are worked on both sides of the yoke-

These kind of patterns can be used for embroidery panels too. Wall hangings, bags cushions are embellished with this gujarati embroidery. More on my next post.

The yoke pattern on which the embroidery is done, has detailing of motifs, kutchwork and mirrors.
The kutchwork is worked together with the motifs, the mirrors are also stitched over the motifs. Other than that a line of mirrors are stitched along the neck line. The mirrors are worked in yellow thread [ the same bright yellow] with buttonhole outline worked in red thread.
